Traditional TV that's been around for decades may lose its popularity before long. This could happen, taking into account lots of fresh things to choose from out there to replace cable TV. Users simply want to avoid the inconvenient schedules, silly advertisements, and not having any control over programs being shown. Currently, when users could find anything we want, when we want it by browsing the Internet, good-old television seems old-fashioned.
There are lots of tools conveying certain content to the screen. For many years, cable companies in USA have provided on-demand programs on a pay-per-view basis to the regular choice of channels. These additions enable us to pick from a selection of certain movies and start watching. Your selection begins showing right away, without commercials, not to mention the power to pause and come back later.
Recently, the addition of internet into set-top boxes began, and gave rise to what is known as Hybrid digital TV. It's a mixture of regular TV set plus Internet. One example is GoogleTV, it was launched a while ago, but was not an instant success when it was introduced. Another more successful development is the BOXEE, it provides social networking features on top of watching movies and shows.
Even more exciting, are the mobile solutions that allow enjoying TV shows using a mobile phone. Such mobile solutions are particularly popular among iPad fans, considering the AirPlay functionality included in iOS products. Users are able to hook up an iPad to any television set and see movies on a wider screen. Consequently, the tablet is essentially a set-top box and this can easily accommodate high-definition videos. And, of course, the shows can be shown with no need to downloading anything. Several notable solutions include: showyou app, BOXEE app, and yap.TV app. App stores are packed with such applications, and lots of new ones are coming out all the time. Having tried these services, lots of users are switching off their set-top boxes and instead turning to their computers, phones and tablets to view whatever they want.
