James (TEX) Alvarado is a native son of the once small town of Hagerstown, Maryland U.S.A. Born James Allen Alvarado on Nov. 20th, 1966 to a military family, amidst a very much cultural transitional time in history. The family, after the birth of his brother Lupe Jr., migrated to San Antonio, Texas, in winter of 1971 to be close to his parental father's side of the family. Those times marked the beginning of family sizes becoming smaller and smaller as appose to previous generations. Also it marked a time where inflation began to slowly climb upwards to grip the nation for years to come. The modest family income, only afforded the basic necessities in life for the Alvarado’s. Then two more siblings later joined the family tree, creating further financial challenges. Nevertheless, the Alvarado family’s living standards were of a modest middle class up bringing, due to Guadalupe Sr.’s military, nose to the grindstone work ethics and practices.
As a young person, Tex developed an interest in reading, ligature, art and crafts for many years. Spending countless hours creating his own hand made toys and literary works. As a son of a military career man, the family was often up rooted and moved. This left very little of time to formulate lasting friendships, often further leading to hours spent in solitude creating stories from his imagination. The demands of the economy also took away the presence of a solid father figure in the household. But eventually after completing a formal basic education and graduating from Forney High School, in Forney, Texas on May 20th 1985. Tex, began a very much short lived stint in the U.S. Armed Forces, as an office staff worker. Shortly, after his discharge the craftsman and writer laid down his pen and creative ambitions of becoming an artist and literary novelist, to pursue a 20 year career in the medical insurance specialist field. This after several initial rejections by galleries and literary companies of his early work. He then worked for various hospitals and doctors offices within the Dallas, Texas area his entire career. Then a chance encounter with a high school friend landed him abroad to Russell, Kansas in the winter of 2006 working as a customer service representative, for one of the largest customer service companies in the United States.
The unfamiliar field did not keep the writers interest for very long, so he later. Relocated to the modest size town of Great Bend, Kansas, doing volunteer work for a local non-denominational church, homeless shelter and other various charitable organizations for a period of eight months. Up till this time the 41 year old had only from time to time picked up his pen to sketched or write on various scraps of paper or napkins which came in contact with his hands. The experience within that small town inspired him to write several works on the human condition to survive. Also, it opened the flood gates of inspiration to heed the calling of what he was born to do….write! A faithful call for help to care for an ailing mother brought Tex back to the Dallas, Texas area, where today he is again renewed interest in crafts, writing and other creative endeavors that he hopes to bring to others to share in the near future.
